Learning outcomes play a central role in shaping educational experiences, guiding instruction, promoting accountability, and ensuring that students acquire the knowledge and skills needed for success in various aspects of life

Considering the importance and use of overviews and learning outcomes

Although various books and study guides may overviews and outcomes in various ways, they are usually present in a student's book. If students develop the habit of using these in their every day study (in class and at home), they can surely improve their overall understanding and retention.

For clarity: understanding subject/topic content creates clear expectations of students from teachers.
For accountability: once it is clear what will be learned, students are given accountability for their knowledge base, allowing for a goal based journey.
For mastery: using these tools can help students master their knowledge base, relevant skills and reasoning techniques, and overall self-improvement.
